Mark Smith creates ceramics that draw inspiration from the sea. They are nostalgic representations of coastal wildlife and the weather-worn buildings and boats of the coast. Each piece has its own story to tell and are designed to make you smile!
“When I produce a piece it becomes a narrative, the tale of a journey. Objects discovered on the shoreline find themselves becoming part of the story. Ships, boats, and wrecks are the main fabric of the work, made from clay that has the textures of metal and wood objects salvaged, press moulded, and patched together. They produce a variety of forms that look as though they have sailed the Seven Seas.”
Mark Smith is based in Staffordshire. He is a member of the Designer Crafts Guild and the Craft Potters Association.
