'Shattered vase is made from a Victorian cast iron piece of plumbing. It was designed to create a vacuum to move water from one container to another. At least 150 years old it will have been discarded for most of its life before being repurposed as contemporary sculpture.
The shape and form is very aesthetic as is the texture that has been achieved on the surface.
Copper stitching has an aesthetic as well as a practical application. It pays lip service to the Japanese art of Kintsugi although there is no gold involved! It is part of a broader philosophy of embracing the beauty of human flaws.
