Nicola Briggs takes her inspiration from feathers, shells, pebbles, driftwood, leaves and pine cones which she collects, and from family days out and walks with her dog.  The ever-changing light of sunsets is the influence behind the muted palette which is found in her work.

Nicola’s ceramics are hand-build out of porcelain clay. This is a process where the clay can be rolled out or manipulated to create textures, the form of the piece then taking shape.  Her work is fired in the kiln up to three times, to 1250 degrees after glazing. In Nicola’s own words “I love the Japanese Wabi-Sabi aesthetics, which are that there is beauty in the imperfect.
My work is ‘perfectly imperfect’ and quite organic. There may be marks and differences as a result of individually handcrafting each piece.
Although pieces could be on a similar theme, no two pieces are ever identical”.

Nicola Briggs is based in Manchester, UK.
